The UK Riots – what I saw and felt

peace and compassion

Meditating helps generate a peaceful resonance in the body

I first heard about the riots when I was on the road (they started Aug 6th 2011 according to CBC News).

I was sad, shocked and horrified to hear the extent of the riots, which started from one flashpoint in Tottenham, London. I have lived in the US for 10 years and am raising a family here, but still have deep roots in the UK, so it was tough for me to watch.

A Meditation Flash Mob in Trafalgar Square – did anyone see this on National TV or were the UK Riots played over and over?

What I did notice also was how many times the same pieces of video of the UK Riots were being played over and over on US television (can’t speak for the UK).

I know it’s important for people to be informed, and that people died during these riots, and it hurt my heart to see the footage (as it did many others, I’m sure).

But did this video (made on June 2nd) get broadcast on UK television?  Just wondering….perhaps the media needs to consider broadcasting an antidote.

Here’s the video – people broadcasting peace and compassion – an antidote to the UK Riots

The music track is The Great Bell Chant by Thich Nhat Hanh, chanted by brother Phap Niem. The meditation Flash Mob was organized by Wake Up London (Sangha), here’s their Facebook Page.  Here’s their WordPress site.

An explanation of what these people are doing in the video and why events like this are an important antidote to the UK Riots

The people in this video are meditating using techniques they’ve learned from practicing the art of mindful living, some inspired by the teachings of Zen master Thich Nhat Hanh.

At a purely energetic level, each person is focusing on their own electromagnetic field and raising their vibration.  In non-energetic language they are experiencing peace and compassion and broadcasting those feelings.

When meditating in a group, these feelings become a resonance which can be felt by everyone in the group.

Isn’t it about time that broadcast media learns to understand the importance of energy and how it affects people when it broadcasts the UK Riots over and over?  Peace and compassion is the antidote.

Similarly, broadcasting negative images over and over can cause a resonance in your own energy field which can affect your personal state of mind unless you are conscious of this process and know ways to ‘shift’ out of it.

If somebody is unmindful and receives the UK Riot images over and over on their TV or radio…I wonder what might happen?

Which image would you like to keep in your mind today, UK Riots or the Meditation Flash Mob in Trafalgar Square?  I much prefer to have feelings of peace and compassion in the body.

Next Meditation Flash Mob : August 27th 2011, Trafalgar Square UK, 1.30pm to 2.10pm
