How Reflexology Can Help Pregnant Moms – And It’s National Reflexology Week This Week!

Reflexology can help children too

Using Reflexology to Help Pregnant Moms and bring on labor the natural way

sing reflexology to help pregnant moms and bring on labor the natural way Was adding to my Twitter list last night and typed in ‘reflexology‘ in the search box…and up came Kevin Kunz’s twitter profile along with this linkBarbara and Kevin Kunz – Reflexology Live Blogspot Don’t you just love synchronicity!

So as a reflexologist who can also blog (blogflexist? blogologist??), I thought I’d go along with Kevin’s excellent idea.

He says “To celebrate World Reflexology Week I have a great idea. Reflexologists should become authors. After all everyday stories are being made through the work of reflexologists all over this world.”

My real life story where using reflexology helped to bring on labor using only natural methods

Here’s my real life story, which is the main reason why I ended up deciding to study and practice reflexology.

I was newly married and pregnant three months into the marriage, having just moved to Virginia Beach, VA with my US Navy husband.  He had to go on a 6 month deployment and then, on the day of my first OB appoint, 9/11 happened.  So, sadly, I know for sure what I was doing that day.

I had high blood pressure during my pregnancy for a number of reasons, and using reflexology helped me stay well without medication

At the appointment at Portsmouth Naval Hospital in Portsmouth, VA, tapes of that terrible happening in New York were being played over and over on the TV screens in the waiting room.

I also had a British friend with me at the time who was visiting, and was understandably very worried about flying home after such an incident! (I’m originally from the UK also).

I had all the usual check-ups and went home, but at each successive appointment after that my blood pressure continued to rise.

(It is a teaching hospital also, so each time I had a new doctor who immediately zoomed in on the high blood pressure recorded on the first appointment, then when I pointed out the date of the first appointment…!), however, my blood pressure was just not going back down.

I started receiving reflexology sessions after the first trimester of pregnancy

So, somehow, I suspect via synchronicity, I found my way to the Association of Research and Enlightenment in Virginia Beach, and received reflexology sessions regularly from a teacher and practitioner there called Rainbow Perry.

(For information, this was from the second trimester onwards…reflexology is definitely not recommended in the first trimester).

‘Magically’, almost immediately after the first reflexology session my blood pressure almost immediately returned to normal, which stumped the doctors at Portsmouth Naval Hospital.  I explained the treatments I was having, but at the time they were not familiar with the approach.

The Benefits of using reflexology during pregnancy were so great I started taking classes myself

I took two classes in reflexology given by Rainbow at the ARE Cayce Reilly School of Massotherapy during the later part of my pregnancy.

It was great, because part of learning reflexology involves both and giving and receiving sessions, so I received more reflexology while I was there learning to give!

Rainbow was studying a course to become a reflexology practitioner who works specifically with pregnant women, so she had a massage table with a hole in it for my belly bump.

I could lay on my tummy at 8 months pregnant…I swear I probably would have paid just to lay on the table! :-))

If you’re pregnant or have been pregnant, you’ll know what I mean…ohhh that release on the lower back.

My husband was on deploying in the Navy – I only had a 2 week window in which to have the baby – using reflexology to bring on labor enabled that to happen naturally

When it came to the birth of my oldest daughter, my husband only had a 2 week ‘window’ of return from deployment (unusual, also) since he was switching orders shortly after that.

Again I employed Rainbow’s services two weeks before my due date to work certain pressure points on the body, and again the day before the baby was due.

This resulted in my oldest daughter being born on her due date, with my husband present!  It was an easy birth despite being my first, and drug free.

Rainbow even came to the hospital to work my feet the day after.  Wonderful!

By the way, if there are any reflexology practitioners out there who would like to publish a story and have a link to their email or website…contact me…it’s National Reflexology Week!  I’ll publish it for you!  Just call me the blogging reflexologist.  Bit of a mouthful, but, what the hey.

    • You’re welcome, thanks for the feedback! You can follow on Facebook too, Mom On A Spiritual Journey page. Did you know reflexology can increase the chances of moms getting pregnant, too? I’ll make a note to blog about it in the near future.

  4. You made some good points there. I did a search about the topic and hardly got any specific details on other websites, but then happy to be here, really, appreciate that.

As the British friend in question, I found it sad but strangley positive remembering that time as I acknowledge how important it is that good things can come out of such distressing times. Reflexology is something that I’m interested in investigating further. Love the blog, Sarah. Keep up the good (energy) work :o)

  6. You can certainly see your skills in the paintings you write. The arena hopes for more passionate writers such as you who are not afraid to mention how they believe. All the time follow your heart.
