the boy who knew too much

Past life recall – the boy who knew too much about Lou Gehrig

This is a book review of The Boy Who Knew Too Much by Cathy Byrd (the mother of Christian Byrd). Christian demonstrated past life recall of his life as Lou Gehrig. That may sound weird enough, but what if your child demonstrates past life recall and then states that you were also his mother in that past life! This book documents the journey of Christian and Cathy Byrd, a mother and son repeating their roles. Christian recalls accurate memories of being Lou Gehrig, the famous baseball player. Read on!

In this book she tells the story of the broken pieces of her life, and how she finds a way to put all the pieces in order through the lens of healing herself.

stories from spirit

Sheila Callaham’s Stories from Spirit | A Kindle ebook giveaway and book review by Mom On A Spiritual Journey

Stories from Spirit will help you learn a different route to meditation, using an ancient indigenous spiritual practice called journeying, or Shamanic journeying, which is a form of guided or self-guided meditation using drumming as a background track and a way to switch off the present mind. Sheila Callaham is an independent author, also on her own spiritual journey and has written Stories from Spirit in order to relate her story and enable others to begin or continue with Shamanic journeying.I’ve enjoyed this ebook greatly and believe Stories from Spirit is a great resource for the new Shamanic Guided Journeyer, as well as those more experienced on the journey.

How To Help Ourselves Heal Through The Causal Body

What is the Causal Body? It’s the part of our Personal Energy field that links the adult human to its’ childhood Self. The more connected we are through our adult and inner child aspects, the more complete and whole we will be as a human expression of our Divine Nature.

This post discusses some ways in which we can improve the energetic quality of the Causal Energy body. Heidi Sawyer’s book Highly Intuitive People is a great help in this process. Heidi’s book has been at the top of the list in its’ category on Amazon for over 10 years now.

My top 3 resources for Empaths

Empaths seem to be awakening!  Many more people on their spiritual journey are realizing that part of the reasons for their spiritual experiences are that they are Highly Sensitive, or feel their own or the emotions of others extremely deeply. Being on the empathic spectrum can also to feeling the energy of locations or imprinted energy within locations, receiving deep knowledge of circumstances – even feeling the emotions of Loved Ones who have passed on if you happen to be an empathic medium.

Yvonne Perry’s excellent book “Who’s Stuff is this Anyway?” will help any conscious or awakening Empath on the path towards the management of their skill and abilities. Also check out this post for two other resources I believe are most helpful for Empaths on the Journey.

E3 (ECubed) and 9 more energy experiments – interesting!

I’m currently working through E-Cubed: Nine More Energy Experiments That Prove Manifesting Magic and Miracles Is Your Full-Time Gig by Pam Grout and I’m finding some of the outcomes fascinating. If you haven’t heard of E3 (ECubed) or E2 for that matter, they are both books which help us to understand how to put modern quantum energy awareness, the laws of manifestation and the Law of Attraction into practice in some very simple ways.

Mom On A Spiritual Journey

Now Discover Your Strengths | Connectedness as a strength on the spiritual journey

Based on the research work of Donald Clifton who used Gallup surveys to ask millions of people around the world ‘what are your strengths’ (amongst other positively-framed questions), Donald Clifton and Marcus Buckingham wrote this book to start the ‘strengths revolution’. A Strength as defined in Now, Discover Your Strengths is “consistent near-perfect performance in an activity”. The aim here is to find your natural talents or ways that you express yourself in the world that you find the easiest because your brain works that way.

This book is revolutionary.  It’s a very different concept to consider simply building on your Strengths rather than ‘plugging the skills gap’ and shoring up your ‘weaknesses’.

recently and have been working through the book subsequent to this. It really is a jam-packed personal development tool – here is part II of my review.

big fat lies

Big Fat Lies Women Tell Themselves | Amy Ahlers ditches her Inner Critic | Book Review by Mom On A Spiritual Journey

Big Fat Lies Women Tell Themselves is a book with a secret…the author has somehow accessed her inner wisdom and knows all of the big fat lies women tell themselves!

All you have to do is open the first few pages of the book and look at the table of contents…and you will see every single big fat lie you have told yourself listed in this book by category, no less.

These are the ones we probably HAVEN’T told anyone, not even our best female buddy over a coffee, because many of them are unconscious and we say them in our minds without even being aware of what we’re doing.

There is a method to author Amy Ahler’s madness here. After all, what’s so attractive about reading a bunch of lies?

What is truly useful about this book, is that there are exercises to help us break down our reasons for lying and reprogram our thoughts.

you can heal your life

Louise Hay | Happy Birthday on Oct 8th and thank you | You Can Heal Your Life Book Review by Mom On A Spiritual Journey

Louise Hay’s book You Can Heal Your Life has been in publication and on bestseller lists since 1985.

One of my close friends call it her ‘health bible’ and I always have a copy or two on hand, since there is often a friend around who needs to borrow it.

Louise Hay’s groundbreaking work in my view was based partly on her intuition, or inner guidance, that words were spoken in a positive frame help shift our minds and bodies into a better state, or chemical balance.

Modern science now proves what Louise Hay intuited after much work, study and many workshops with people from all walks of life – that detrimental/negative emotional and mental states long held in the body are connected to illness, and conversely, that positive/hopeful affirming emotional and mental states are helpful for our healing.

mind over medicine

Cracking the Nocebo Code | Mind Over Medicine by Lissa Rankin – change your mind, change our medicine

Did you know that people who respond well to a placebo are often REMOVED from clinical trials?

The Nocebo Effect is something I had heard of, but wasn’t 100% sure that I understood the definition well – until I read Mind Over Medicine: Scientific Proof That You Can Heal Yourself, that is.

The theory behind the Nocebo Effect is that we can think ourselves sick, basically – and perhaps even sicker when we are surrounded by others who think of us that way also.

So the formula (according to Lissa) would be Negative Beliefs + Harsh Care = Sickness.

The power of personal belief is a tool that can be applied for everybody’s health and well being.  We just need to be taught how to use it.

jersey yogi

Jersey Yogi by Jim Starr – book review by Sarah at Mom On A Spiritual Journey

When I was approached to review this book and visited Jim’s site…I had a great feeling about reading this book partly because Jim’s writings made me laugh!Like many people on the spiritual path, one day Jim found himself facing something he did not want to accept. During a handball game, he badly injured his back and found himself unable to continue playing. Up until that point an extremely competitive player…he tried to continue but was ultimately in too much pain to do so.

Through synchronicity he finds himself accepting a Rolfing session to help with the back pain and afterward is “walking on air”.

Now the Jersey Yogi starts his Journey in earnest as he connects deeply with an Indian Guru, becomes part of Ashram life and shifts his vibration as he gives up drinking alcohol and eating meat.

Entering the mystery of the Runes at Glastonbury Tor

I enjoy traveling to power spots and feeling the unusual energy of the location. On a recent trip to the UK (my homeland), I visited Stonehenge, Avebury, and Glastonbury, known for it’s Tor and the Arthurian legends arising from its’ history.

I hope you enjoy this tour of a power spot. I’d highly recommend a visit to Glastonbury if you get the opportunity.

While in Stonehenge I found a book by Jeremy White called ‘Raising the Runes’. The next day I realized Jeremy was giving myself and my friend our tour of Glastonbury!

Jeremy is a Shaman who’s mission is to teach us how to use the Runes for meditation and divination, and that the ancient Elder Futhark Runes are still relevant in modern life.

choices and illusions

Choices and Illusions – a book for awakening humans

The road to spiritual awakening can take many paths. Like me, you can be visited by visions or energetic experiences and start asking why they are happening.

Or, like Eldon Taylor, the author of Choices and Illusions: How Did I Get Where I Am, and How Do I Get Where I Want to Be?, you can begin to question how your own perception of the world works…and just as importantly, how other people in the world are influencing you.

Holistic Tarot – Meditate on Present Energy, Design Your Future

Benebell Wen gives us a guided tour of the history of Tarot and it’s many uses in her new book Holistic Tarot: An Integrative Approach to Using Tarot for Personal Growth.

This Tarot book comes with a twist, however.
Unlike many practitioners, in Holistic Tarot – – Benebell Wen offers us an insight into a different methodology and use for Tarot than the commonly understood norm.

She states that’Tarot should not be used to predict the future’and that a way to progress with modern spiritual psychoanalytical practice is to choose the frame of ‘Tarot analytics’ – as she says…I do not support fortune-telling and I do not believe in future-telling.

My approach to Tarot is not predictive.  It is analytic.  The signs and symbols of the cards facilitate retrieval of information from the unconscious and move it to the forefront of the conscious plane of the mind, which can then help us form creative solutions, present a different angle to a problem…or offer the breakthrough that allows us to move forward.

I call it “Tarot Analytics’

Between Two Worlds by Tyler Henry – book review

I recently read Tyler Henry’s book, Between Two Worlds. Tyler is a young and talented medium – only 21 – raised in Hanford, CA and now finding himself Hollywood’s go-to medium in LA. His accuracy during readings and his ability to make sense of the way energy is received from those who have passed on is masterful. For anyone wanting to learn how to connect with Loved Ones or simply to learn more about the phenomenon of mediumship, this book is a must.

walking in grace with grief

Walking in Grace with Grief

Della asked me to review her book Walking in Grace with Grief: Meditations for Healing After Loss since she felt some resonance with other posts and information I share on this site about connecting with our loved ones.

Della’s son Rick passed when he lost control of his car on a mountain road near their family cabin.

What makes this book so different is Della’s approach to dealing with the loss of a Loved One and how she chose to move through the stages of grief – walking in Grace indeed.

A mediums guide to Creating Heaven On Earth – Karen Noe

Karen Noe’s first book – Through the Eyes of Another – A Medium’s Guide to Creating Heaven on Earth – published by Hay House leads us to consider the concept of having our life review before we leave, pass on or transition.

More complex than seeing your life flash before your eyes, a life review can be an opportunity to learn from your life lessons and discover why certain people or situations were in your life in the first place.

It can manifest as a movie that you watch, or as a series of meetings with people in your life who discuss their reasons for being with you this time around.

Psychic Medium John Edward | Infinite Quest Develop Your Psychic Intuition | Book Review by Mom On A Spiritual Journey

Infinite Quest: Develop Your Psychic Intuition to Take Charge of Your Life – the book.

I bought this book because I admire John Edward’s work and I wanted to learn more about his techniques and approaches – plus – I am having an increasing number of ‘energetic’ experiences and am looking for answers from more experienced practitioners.

And finally, last year my mother and one of my best friends passed over within a few weeks of each other and a number of ‘happenings’ occurred which made me think differently about death and the afterlife.

Help stop bullying

Help stop bullying with this summer read – Larger-than-life Lara by Dandi Mackall

In Larger-Than-Life Lara by Dandi Mackall, Lara is truly larger than life – in some unexpected ways.

She is an overweight child and is ridiculed for this, yet she has special talents which finally open up the children’s hearts in the school where she starts over (again).

We get the impression from the story that she has moved from school to school already.

Lara’s story is told by another classmate, Laney Grafton who is initially relieved when Lara turns up since Laney as up until this point been the class kicking post for anyone with a bullying disposition…Laney realizes after the first 3 days of Lara’s school attendance that she has not been kicked, pushed or called names.

Both my girls read this book and suggested I read it too.  In fact, they were insistent!

It’s an easy read for adults and children alike and is a great way to begin to understand the insidious nature of bullying from a child’s perspective.

Recipes for a Sacred Life

Recipes For A Sacred Life | A Book Review by Mom On A Spiritual Journey

Have you ever wondered who wrote that popular poem The Desiderata?

It’s that poem that starts..

Go placidly amid the noise and the haste and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons…

You may have seen it printed somewhere or sown as an embroidered piece at your auntie’s house or granny’s house.

In Rivvy Neshama’s book Recipes for a Sacred Life, you can dip in and find out who really wrote that poem…plus study the full poem yourself and gain some peace from it.  The story of who really wrote The Desiderata is quite surprising.

Angels at the Table by Debbie Macomber – great gift for Christmas | Book review by Mom On A Spiritual Journey

I recently read Angels at the Table by Debbie Macomber (thanks again to Andover Library KS for their great new book section!).

It’s a short novel about angelic intervention and free will and is a love story, too.

Whether you believe in Angels at the Table or not – a fun read.

Archangel Gabriel allows angels Shirley, Goodness and Mercy to take an angel-in-training, Will, down to Earth to watch the New Years’ celebrations.

They find themselves in trouble when Will is drawn to stand in the celebrating crowds in Times Square and notices two lonely people, a guy, and a girl.  He gives them a nudge with his wing and they connect and like each other.

So what’s wrong with that?  They were destined to meet, but not that soon – so their relationship becomes blocked by a number of complications.

Stumbling Into Infinity

Stumbling Into Infinity by Michael Fischman | A Book Review by Mom On A Spiritual Journey | An Ordinary Man In The Sphere Of Enlightenment

During the telling of Michael’s Fischman’s tale in Stumbling Into Infinity, he finds himself increasingly involved with Guru Sri Sri Ravi Shankar’s work, or “Guruji” as he calls him.

We all find ourselves sitting at Guruji’s knee and learning from his wisdom – everything from how and where particular emotions are held in the body, through to accounts of people learning the Sudarshan Kriya breathing method to enable them to de-stress and relax in life, simply by breathing.

Ravi Shankar (born 13 May 1956) is an Indian spiritual leader. He is frequently referred to as “Sri Sri” (honorific) or as Guruji or Gurudev.

He founded the Art of Living Foundation in 1981, a volunteer-based NGO providing social support to the people.

In 1997, he established a Geneva-based charity, the International Association for Human Values, an NGO that engages in relief work and rural development and aims to foster shared global values

Mom On A Spiritual Journey

Walking through illusion – an emotional biography by Betsy Otter Thompson | Book Review by Mom On A Spiritual Journey

The premise of Walking Through Illusion is a number of interviews or question and answer sessions with Jesus about his time on earth with his apostles and others that knew him.

In the preface the author Betsy Otter Thompson describes a process whereby she opened her heart to the energy of Jesus since “hearts are free to express from the depth to which they go”.The result is a book which is easily accessible and easily read despite plumbing some spiritual depths.

Each chapter stands in its’ own right as both a spiritual exercise and a clarifying of our thought processes, from the first chapter entitled “Reform – Where does Reform begin?” through a total of 23 different focus points or chapters, some examples of issues from Morality, Beliefs, Complaints, Betrayal, through to Identities, Memories, Death and Time.
