How I got involved in Energy Work and Energy Psychology.

Understanding Energy Work and Energy Psychology (EP)

Energy Work is one aspect of Energy Psychology (EP)—a growing field exploring how energy systems influence our emotions, behavior, and overall well-being.

Some well-known modalities include the EMF Balancing Technique, Quantum Touch, and Reiki.

For me, energy awareness began long before I knew what those words meant. I had spiritual and energetic experiences from a very young age and seemed to be the only one in my family who did. So I kept them to myself.

Even as a child, I could sense when someone meant harm, sometimes at a distance, and could feel when something was “off,” even if no one else noticed.

Until my mid-thirties, I rarely spoke about these experiences to anyone.

Early Signs of Intuitive Awareness

I often had small premonitions, and they almost always came true. I could also feel the dissonance between what people said and what they truly felt. Their words and body language didn’t quite match—and I felt that mismatch in my own body.

Years later, during my training in Neuro-Linguistic Programming™ (NLP), I discovered there was a word for this: incongruence.

As I’ve continued my studies and spiritual growth, I’ve come to agree with what many physicists suggest—everything is energy.

With modern understandings of quantum physics and entanglement, I would go even further: we are all energetically connected.

From this realization, the fields of Energy Psychology and Energy Work have expanded, exploring how our shared energetic connection can support health, healing, and emotional balance.

The Reading That Changed Everything

When I was 17, a friend and I visited a Romany fortune-teller at the end of a seaside pier in Portsmouth, UK. It felt like a fun, slightly rebellious thing to do as teenagers.

She was an elderly woman dressed in flowing robes—the kind of scene you’d expect from a film—but what happened next was anything but ordinary.

She read the energy from the backs of my hands and then my palms. As she spoke, my whole body recognized the truth of what she was saying.

I still remember her words:

“I love reading my old hands—but even more, I love reading young hands, because there’s so much to see.”

She went on to predict:

• Trips to Wales and Scotland within two years (true—I dated a Welsh boyfriend, then a Scottish one).
• Who I would marry, including what my wedding dress would look like (she missed the divorce, though!).
• That my father was “very tired” and not well.
• Details about my family she couldn’t possibly have known.
• My personality traits and future children—she said 4–6, but with “modern contraception,” likely two.

All of it proved to be astonishingly accurate.

A Difficult Conversation at Home

When I rushed home to tell my mother, expecting her to be fascinated, she was frightened instead.

She insisted I must have made it up. But the Romany woman’s reading included such specific details—our drinks cabinet, my mother’s workplace, my older sibling—that even I couldn’t explain how she knew.

For me, the reading was a moment of validation; it confirmed that my childhood experiences weren’t “just imagination.” But for my mother, it reopened fears she had kept hidden.

Sadly, the fortune-teller’s words about my father were also true. He became unwell during my 18th year and passed away when I was 19. She had been gentle in her phrasing, careful not to tell me more than I could handle.

My Mother’s Hidden Gifts

Years later, when my mother became ill, she finally revealed why that conversation had scared her so deeply—she had energetic abilities of her own and had hidden them all her life.

During her illness, I often gave her energy healing sessions, sometimes from a distance. She could always tell when I was working with her energy, even if we hadn’t spoken.

As she approached her transition, we spoke often about spirit, energy, and what might come next.

Following guidance from a Shaman I’d worked with in Wichita, I suggested she imagine walking into a favorite painting she owned—a woodland scene near our family home, with bluebells in bloom. I have that painting hanging in my living room now.

When the time came, I was back in the U.S. caring for my children. The day she passed, my daughter told me before the phone rang that her grandmother had gone.

It was a sacred, healing passage for all of us—a moment of connection across worlds.

Exploring Energy Work

From my late twenties onward, I began to study Energy Work more intentionally.

During the week, I was a mild-mannered computer assistant and IT trainer—briefcase, suit, and all.

On weekends, I attended every workshop I could find. I call these my “T-shirt spirituality years”—because each workshop came with a new t-shirt, a new meditation, a new tool to explore.

My colleagues had no idea. But some clients began to notice subtle differences.

One noticed that his wife and I shared the same birthday and asked, “Are you—like that?” meaning psychic, because his wife was. I nodded. Another client said he could see symbols in my energy field and guessed I practiced Autogenic meditation.

Before long, clients began approaching me quietly after class—not for computer help, but for support with emotional or spiritual matters. They said they could sense that I could help.

It was the beginning of a new kind of work—one that felt both natural and guided.

The Early Signs of My Akashic Awareness

One of my private games during classes was to guess attendees’ names before checking the sign-in list. Over time, I consistently guessed them all correctly—without knowing how.

Looking back, I realize I was already accessing the Akashic Records, tuning into the field of information and energy that connects us all.

Energy Expansion and Learning

When I became pregnant in 2001, my energetic sensitivity expanded even more. That’s when I began to formally study modalities. I have qualifications in Reflexology and the EMF Balancing Technique®.

What began as curiosity had become a calling. And though the path was never linear, it was always guided by one truth:

Everything—and everyone—is energy.
