Learning More About Intuition
We often joke about intuition in the same way that people sometimes joke about their past lives, but how does intuition really work?
The fact is, we all use our intuition to a greater or lesser degree, whether it’s deciding whether to walk down that particular dark alley or making big life decisions.
Along with decision-making, though, learning about our intuition isn’t something that’s currently taught in school. Wouldn’t it be great if we had decision-making classes? And intuitive classes too, not to mention improv classes – don’t get me started.
I’ve been writing about intuition quite a bit on this blog over the years (since 2010, in fact), and it occurred to me that it’s time for an update. Since then, I’ve learned new systems and experienced new approaches to working with my intuition.
So, here are six ways – and six resources – you can work with to grow your intuition.

#1 – How Does Intuition Work Through Pattern Matching?
More scientific, behavioral, or traditional approaches often explain intuition through pattern matching.
For example, Psychology Today describes intuition as:
A faculty in which hunches are generated by the unconscious mind, rapidly sifting through past experiences and cumulative knowledge.
Our subconscious minds are incredibly observant, even though we’re not aware of all the processes our brains are running at any one moment, and that’s why it’s called the subconscious.
Even without consciously processing something, we can pick up information from a person, location, or situation. This information may arrive suddenly as a hunch, a gut feeling, or even that prickle at the back of the neck.
Yet often we’re taught to ignore our innate pattern-matching abilities in favor of socialized behavior or cultural norms.
I’ve long admired Gavin De Becker’s work on helping people understand how to use their intuition to protect themselves.
The Hunch That Something Is Not Safe
Just today, I watched Gavin De Becker on the Diary of a CEO podcast. He mentioned that many women will step into an elevator with a man who gives them an “off” feeling. The gut instinct is there – but they dismiss it because they’ve been socialized to be polite.
So they step into what is essentially a sealed metal box with someone who feels unsafe.
Developing discernment with our pattern matching is important.
I remember traveling as a lone female in the 1990s after returning from a teaching series I had given in Birmingham, UK. I was trudging across a large parking lot with posters, a boom box, and other training gear. (Well, it was the ’90s.)
I suddenly had a strange feeling and looked behind me. Far across the parking lot, a man was walking quickly toward me.
Feeling uneasy, I threw my gear into the trunk and peeled out of the lot – and sure enough, I saw him chasing after me in the rearview mirror.
Sometimes it’s much better to act on a sudden intuitive hit. It’s better to appear rude and stay out of the elevator than to ignore your instincts and end up in a dangerous situation.

#2 – Connecting To Your Intuition Through Your Soul Blueprint
Since 2016, I’ve been offering Soul Star Readings, which give clients a direct, conscious connection to their Divine Soul Blueprint.
The Soul Blueprint acts as a guide to who we are at the soul level and includes information about our gifts, talents, and natural abilities.
For example, I have a particular soul-level energy center that supports the specific way my intuition works. Knowing my Soul Group also gives me insight into how I receive intuitive information.
Understanding your Soul Blueprint can reveal a great deal about your intuitive style.

#3 – How Does Intuition Work Through Human Design?
Since 2021, I’ve been working with my Human Design by learning more about my Type, Strategy, Authority, and Life Purpose.
Think of your Human Design Chart as an energetic ‘selfie’, in multi-dimensional or fractal terms.
It tracks your Soul’s intentions through your innate or subconscious design, energetically imprinted 88 days before birth. This is matched with your planetary influences on the day, and at the specific time of your birth.
Combining data from 3 ancient energetic reading systems – the I-Ching, the Hindu Chakra system, and the Kabbalah, or Tree of Life, the chart is created by matching human DNA Codon data with the I-Ching gates and Astrology.
Learning about your Human Design Type and Authority can give you lots of insight into how your intuition works.
For example, I’m an Emotional Authority, so feel and touch (through my palm chakras) can give me a lot of sensory information to decode when I’m working with my intuition, for myself and for clients.

#4 – Learning More About Your Intuition Through Human Design Gates
Over time, I’ve noticed connections between our Divine Soul Blueprint and Human Design Gates, which can clarify life themes such as life lessons or past-life patterns.
When I work with someone’s Akashic Records, I also connect with their Inner Circle Spirit Guides – usually four to six guides who support us during our time on Earth.
During these sessions, I’ve noticed that certain Human Design Gates can “light up” energetically for a client. When this happens, the gates often reveal additional insight into how that person’s intuition functions.
These energetic connections can deepen our understanding of our intuitive gifts and how they naturally express themselves.

#5 – How Does Intuition Work Through The Success Codex?
The Success Codex was originally designed as a practical tool for career and business decisions. It definitely works well for that. Over time, though, I’ve noticed energetic threads connecting this system of energy reading to our Divine Soul Blueprints as well.
So what exactly is the Success Codex?
In simple terms, it’s a system based on 10 planetary energies and 3 astrological positions. Aligning with these energetic gateways helps to remind you how to become the most successful version of yourself.
Because the system also incorporates sacred geometry, it has a similar energetic flavor to the Gene Keys. Yet, it’s much simpler and faster to apply in everyday life.
During training to give Success Codex sessions, my teacher pointed out a specific way that intuitive information comes through for me. This pattern also applies when I’m reading for clients. Recognizing this pattern has helped me refine how I work intuitively and focus my intuitive abilities more clearly during sessions.
Understanding systems like the Success Codex can offer another lens for exploring how intuition works. This can also be helpful when it comes to making aligned choices in business, career, and personal direction.

#6 – How Does Intuition Work Through Your Spirit Guides?
Your Inner Circle Spirit Guides can also be a valuable intuitive resource, along with any Teacher Guides who may appear during certain times in your life.
Simply making the connection with your guides can help you recognize how they communicate with you energetically.
Guides can contact us in many ways: through ideas, words, or sentences that seem to appear out of nowhere. Sometimes the connection comes as a physical sensation – like tingles in a chakra – or as an impulse to move, write, or create something.
Understanding these signals can help you check in with your guides when you’re making decisions or learning more about yourself.
That said, guides are exactly that – guides. They provide perspective and information, but they’re not here to tell you what to do. That would interfere with your free will and the experiences you’re meant to navigate.
Instead, they add insight to your decision-making process and your broader understanding of your life path.

Focusing on this aspect of Self can help you to develop greater trust in your inner knowing and use it more confidently in everyday decisions.
