Hi, this is Sarah Lawrence at Mum on a Spiritual Journey. Welcome to my SHINE podcast for August, 2026.
This month, I’m talking about life lessons from the perspective of your Akashic records. If you’re new to this podcast, I’m an intuitive reader who creates a clear frame of reference to help you make decisions by understanding who you truly are at the soul level and how to connect your soul purpose with your human design life purpose.
Through my work, you can also experience a deeper understanding of self, align more fully with who you are at the soul level, and bring that energy into your everyday life for greater self-awareness, clarity, and fulfilment.
I also teach Akashic Records work and how to grow the connection to your intuition, also known as your higher self. This month in my Shine podcast, we’re looking at life lessons, something that can be intuited through your Akashic Records.

The Akashic Records – Your Soul-level Information Cloud
I like to think of the Akashic Records as your soul-level cloud or website.
The Records hold information about your soul and the energetic patterns that help you understand your life at a deeper level. In this podcast, I look at life lessons through 5 different frames or layers of awareness, creating an acronym I call SHINE.
- S is for Soul Level Awareness, the Akashic Records, and Past Lives.
- H is for Human Design.
- I is for Intuition.
- N is for Neuro-Linguistic Programming and Language Work.
- E is for Energetics, anything to do with your energy.
Put them all together, and you have a way to shine.
What Are Life Lessons?
First of all, to work at the Soul level of Shine, let’s set a definition for life lessons. Think of life lessons as themes that run through your life. I use the term life lessons because the word lessons is something we all understand from our experiences at school.
But these aren’t lessons in the traditional sense of being tested or graded. From an Akashic perspective, Life Lessons are chosen by the soul before incarnation.
There can be three main reasons for this.
Firstly, a life lesson may relate to a pattern that your soul wants to clear from a past life.
Secondly, and equally, a life lesson can relate to the life situations and circumstances of your present life.
And thirdly, your Soul may be interested in working through Genetic Karma using the lens of a particular life lesson. Genetic karma is connected with our ancestral heritage, the patterns and energy that can be carried through our family line.
So you can see how Life Lessons can run through our lives almost like an energetic thread.
So how do Life Lessons work, exactly?
When I read your Akashic Records through your Divine Soul Blueprint, which is the essence of who you are at the soul level, I look for your personal Life Lessons.
There is a Primary Life Lesson to be found, along with between three and six Secondary Life Lessons, depending on what your Soul has chosen for this lifetime.
These life lessons can relate to up to 11 different life areas. Some examples of life areas are career, Health and wellness, and relationships.
Some life lessons may be active in your life from day one. Others may be sparked by a particular life situation or circumstance.
And sometimes a life lesson can be activated by a karmic pattern that is asking to be cleared. You’ll often know when a karmic pattern is being activated because you notice something repeating in your life.
Noticing Repeating Patterns
You might find yourself experiencing similar situations again and again. Or feeling as though something almost just out of reach is holding you back. But for this podcast, let’s come back to life lessons. So by now, you’re probably wondering which Life Lessons you might have.
I can intuit your life lessons from your Divine Soul Blueprint, that cloud or URL of soul energy that’s accessible through your Akashic Records. Discovering your life lessons, especially your primary life lesson, can be a real head-slap moment.
It’s very helpful and validating to learn because it can put so much of your present life experiences into a whole new perspective.
Life Lessons Podcast: Human Design May Show Us Life Lessons
Sometimes life lessons show themselves very clearly in your Human Design chart.
This is a representation of your aura using ancient and modern measurement tools, such as the Hindu chakra system and the Chinese I Ching prediction system.
Recently, I started work as a specialist on something new called the Success Codex, which looks at some astrological aspects of your personality plus the main aspects of your personality through Human Design. Sometimes the life lessons show themselves energetically in the Success Codex chart, too.
At other times, the actual words of the life lessons come up. I find this so fascinating as a reader that information I channel also shows up in a chart. Amazing validation! (See story below).

In 2024, I found myself studying my energy in a whole new way. I’m definitely a student of the new. This partly comes from my Divine Soul Blueprint, where my primary Energy Center is Divine Communication – an aspect of this energy is being the eternal student!

Life Lessons Podcast: Example of Life Lessons Through A Famous Person
Let’s look at life lessons through Human Design and the Success Codex now. It’s always helpful to have an example to relate to when we’re contemplating a spiritual concept like life lessons.
This month, I’ve chosen Gary Moore, who is a famous guitarist. If you don’t know who he was, check him out on YouTube.
Search for Gary Moore, The Messiah Will Come Again, and you’ll get a sense of his incredible expertise and passion.
Of course, we’re not all Gary Moores. We’re all designed to be uniquely ourselves.
But looking at his life lessons and his Human Design Life Purpose in relation to his career gives us a really interesting example.
Life Lessons Podcast: Lessons Are Like A Slide Rule
And do remember that Life Lessons are a little bit like a slide rule. If you have the Primary Life Lesson of Abundance, for example, you might experience financial abundance and have plenty of resources in your life. But equally, you might find that you struggle with abundance throughout your life. The soul is interested in experiencing the Life Lesson.
It doesn’t judge the experience in the way we humans tend to. And who knows, if you struggle with a particular life lesson, perhaps there is a karmic pattern getting in the way of fully experiencing it. So, back to Gary Moore’s life lessons.
His primary life lesson was Peace, which, looking at his life history, was something he struggled to find. His secondary life lessons were Ease, Abundance, and Openness. He may have felt most at peace when he was playing and working with music. He did experience financial abundance through his work over time, although sometimes that abundance became out of balance.
Gary Moore’s Life Purpose
His soul’s intention was simply to experience ease or not, abundance or not, openness or not. He famously fell out with fellow musicians, sometimes fell back in with them again, and had an eventful personal life. Through Human Design, his life purpose is that of Endeavor.
And interestingly, it’s 11.11 on the clock as I’m recording these notes for the podcast. He was totally focused on his musical career throughout his life, and the level of skill he achieved on the guitar was a true endeavor. As a young man, he even stretched out the tendons on his left hand so that he could play the guitar right-handed. He was naturally left-handed. Now that’s definitely an endeavor.
Through his Success Codex chart, I can see that he regulated his emotions through creativity. Maybe that gave him some peace. His Superpower was Sharing, and his North Node or Purpose was to live through his Passion.
His guiding light from the Success Codex™ was to cultivate his Wisdom. As with many people’s lifetimes, he worked through some of his life lessons, but didn’t necessarily work through all of the potential within each lesson. And again, the Soul doesn’t judge this. It simply experiences.
Life Lessons Podcast: You May Recognize Your Life Lessons
Now let’s consider recognizing your own life lessons through your intuition, the I in the SHINE model.
When clients hear their life lessons, they often intuitively start to connect the dots with where and when particular life lessons have been activated in their lives. There is often an immediate recognition of the theme when the Life Lesson is named.
With intimate relationships, one of our Primary or Secondary life lessons may be activated. Or there may even be a separate life lesson connected specifically with that relationship. Perhaps attracted through a karmic pattern from a past life or through choices and decisions made in the present life. As I mentioned earlier, the soul is neutral about what is experienced through a life lesson. We have free will, and we take action based on the decisions we make.
The soul can’t predict exactly what we’re going to do with that free will. It can choose to incarnate to have certain experiences, but it doesn’t judge the outcome.
Expectations are a very human trait.
NLP™, Neuro-Linguistic Programming and Language
Now let’s go to the N in the SHINE model, which is working with NLP, or Neuro-Linguistic Programming, the language we use related to life lessons.
When I work with a client during the sole purpose reading for the primary life lesson, or the life lessons reading, we delve into the various word definitions of the life lessons in question. Often, this brings deeper enlightenment as a client finds different ways to relate to a life lesson through this approach.
It’s also helpful to imagine your life as a timeline and contemplate life situations through the lens of a particular life lesson. This can also bring about deeper understanding.
I also suggest finding a quote or affirmation you like with the specific name of the life lesson in the quote or affirmation to help you align with the positive potentials of that particular life lesson.
Life Lessons Podcast: Energetics, Love and Relationships
Now let’s look at the E in the SHINE model, Energetics, with a focus on love and relationships.
When I give my Relationship Reading, sometimes clients will discover how present-day life lessons connect with that relationship because it will confirm difficult dynamics or growth patterns that clients are going through in their present life.
Relationships that are over may also be a part of this life lesson, so it’s good to review your past relationships too. Sometimes two souls have shared other lifetimes, and there may be karmic patterns still playing out, which is why they’ve been magnetically drawn together during this lifetime.
Karma is like a catalyst, and it keeps offering a soul the same patterns over and over until they’re resolved.
Do we ever complete Life Lessons?
When we work on spiritual aspects of ourselves, it’s easy to apply human values to spiritual values because that’s what we know and experience here in this dimension.
So when we hear about a life lesson, we wonder if we’re going to get a good completion score or how we can do better. Life lessons aren’t an exam, though. They are vibrational themes to help us grow. We can choose to grow a lot or a little in this lifetime or the next.
Perhaps a good metaphor is thinking about life lessons as different rooms off a long corridor. We can choose to spend more time in one room than another, and it’s okay to do so. But if you want to get more conscious about it, then at least knowing the available rooms, or life lessons to work on, is a really good start.
