A skill every empath should have and why

If you are an empath then you are probably no stranger to emotional overwhelm.  As a child, you may not have had the words to even know what you were feeling.

The world was just one big ball of mixed-up energies and emotions and you felt them.  Every.  Single. One.

Then maybe one day, even reading an article like this, you had a lightbulb moment.  This is so hard because you were taking everything on, feeling everything, and thinking it was all your stuff!

What is and isn’t yours as an empath

At some point, you began to realize that not every single feeling, emotion, picture, sense, or sound was yours, especially if you were in the middle of realizing that you were having a spiritual awakening.

Yes, of course, you have your own feelings, senses, and emotions, but you are also capable of sensing most other people’s too and this can be incredibly wearing.  A lot of the time in order to deal with all of this you would spend time alone in your bedroom, in nature, just trying to get yourself balanced.

Other people may have called you ‘too sensitive’, ‘over-imaginative, or even ‘too soft’.  Sometimes people would tell you to get out of your head and get into the ‘real world’, harden up, or even to stop being so imaginative – something you are so naturally gifted at being stifled and brought down.

Then one day you noticed something

Perhaps it was just a shift in perception or brain bias.  Perhaps you were clean and clear in your energy and having a good day.  Or perhaps it was the third time somebody close to you did something in such an obvious way that you realized the feelings were arranged in a pattern and they were not yours at all but belonged to that other person.

Then you got it.  You were feeling other’s feelings and reaching out with your energy, interpreting other’s feelings before working on yourself or feeling your own feelings.

It’s OK.  You’re an empath!

My journey as an empath

I’m not exactly sure when I realized I was an empath.  It was more of a slow awakening for me than an ‘aha’ moment.  When I learned to become a reflexologist, I realized I could ‘feel into’ people’s bodies when I was working on their feet.

When I learned the EMF Balancing Technique®, a form of energy work, I realized that I was getting confirmation from people’s energy fields similar to the information I had received all along from my own empathic input.

When I started reading books like this one Whose Stuff Is This?: Finding Freedom from the Negative Thoughts, Feelings, and Energy of Those Around You, I realized they applied to me.  Then the puzzle pieces started to fit together.

A skill every empath should have and why

The basic skill I believe every empath should have only opened to me recently.  I’m not talking about shielding, pink bubbles, or clearing energy, no.  Although those skills are useful.

I’m talking about locating that place in your physical body and energy field where you are completely you and can access your own inner wisdom.

Many on the spiritual path teach us to ground using the root chakra and the energy of the Earth.  This is also useful but it’s not what I’m talking about.

I believe all empaths have a safe place inside

I believe each Empath has a place where they go that is absolutely safe and inviolate.  Otherwise, we would break apart or lose ourselves in others completely, right?

Where is your place?  From this podcast and my work in the Akashic Records, I realized that my place is between the heart and the solar plexus chakras.

When I go there, I am centered.  I can think, feel, sense, and yet also listen and notice others, but I am not tipped off balance.  I am perfectly safe, perfectly me, the imaginative, sensitive empath.

Let me know where your safe place is.  If you are still on the journey of discovery, perhaps I can help!

  • I started this blog in 2010 to remember my British mum Margaret, who was highly intuitive, but hid it almost forever - until she told me later in her life. She also told me not to hide what I know, and to write about it! So, here it is.

I'm also a mom, writer, budding artist, and lover of fantasy novels - and third in a female line of intuitives. Over time, this blog has grown to reflect my spiritual journey, and the readings, coachings, teachings and sessions that I offer.

In my previous careers, I have worked in UK Broadcast Media (BBC, Sky, Channel 4, ITV). I trained people on computers in a UK Water Authority, then ran a freelance training business, followed by a partner business where we incorporated NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) and Accelerated learning into technical business trainings.

During this time I co-created a successful long-running course incorporating Accelerated Learning techniques (1998-2021) and taught business trainers course design techniques, too.

I hope you enjoy my writing, and maybe you'll consider booking a reading or requesting a chart if you are intrigued by what is offered here.

Lots of light, and thanks for visiting!
